“Let the peace of God rule in your heart,” ~Colossians 3:15
The Thought
Christ came as a babe to be our peace. Let’s wrap our minds around this truth for a moment during this busy holiday season. In all the gatherings, shopping, and running to and fro, take a moment and realize Peace has come.
I took the pixies out shopping last night …the sleet fell in droves but our spirits were bright with holiday cheer. However, we soon discovered that not every one was feeling our joyful vibe. We were shocked at how frantic the drivers zipped around the parking lot, how the man pumping the gas across from us cursed when something didn’t go his way and then drove off in anger. It seems that peace isn’t a guarantee.
We are told in Colossians that we are to let God’s peace rule in our hearts.
We can either let fear rule. Or, we can let the peace of God rule. Let’s choose peace.
The Greek word in this verse for “rule”, brabeueto, paints a beautiful picture of what transpires when peace rules.
The word was often used in reference to the Olympic games. It had the idea of presiding over and preserving order. The peace of God will control you.
