Ten years ago our family traveled to Oxford, England for my husband to pursue a PhD studying beauty in the works of C.S. Lewis. For those of you who have journeyed with me for some time now, you know just how much of an impact this decision had on our family.
When my husband, Tim, first suggested the idea to move across the pond, I was a sleep-deprived mom trying to keep three girls under the age of five alive. I did not have time to entertain such “luxuries” in my mind—what difference does beauty make if I can’t even keep my eyes open?
Yet, my heart warmed to the idea of moving to England as the Spirit gently led, and we found ourselves immersed in wonder as we walked the English countryside, all the while studying beauty. (Even though I was not the one getting the PhD my husband is a verbal processor so I was learning alongside him every step of the way).
Perhaps one of the most integral things we discovered was the importance of seeing. To take the time to notice the beauty right before our eyes. In our modern world we have lost the ability to “see”.
How many of us race through our days and never take time to pause and witness the wonder around us?
In his book, The Beauty Chasers, Tim reminds us,
“Beauty is about participation and attentiveness.
When we slow down, the world meets us with epiphany. When we attend, our eyes quicken our hearts. When we see, we notice God.” ~Tim Willard
We’ve taken seriously this invitation to pursue beauty. To become a participant and not just a spectator. Our heart is to forage the beauty all around us and to invite others to do the same.
For the past two years we have traveled to our friend, Daune Pitman’s, to teach a live workshop at her cottage called Foraged Beauty. It has been such a special time gathering with others, setting aside time to pursue creativity and wonder. It never ceases to amaze me how Beauty can transform our souls.
So many contacted us that they wished they could be a part - we thought it would be a wonderful offering to teach it online, the next best thing to joining us in person.
And so I’m so excited to announce that we are now doing the Foraged Beauty art workshop online! We are bringing Foraged Beauty to your home, and we would love for you to join us!
Beauty matters. Our family has witnessed firsthand the power of beauty and it’s necessity in our lives. So much so that it is a joy to share it with others—with you.
When we headed to the Foraged Beauty live art workshop two weekends ago, I once again witnessed how beauty invites, how it inspires, how integral it is.
Foraging beauty is not some abstract process. You can do it in your home. You can do it wherever you are. And now we are offering this workshop for you, where you are.
Friends, I would be so honored for you to join us here.
